The Dutch airline KLM, the oldest airline in the world still flying under its original name, is celebrating its 105th anniversary this year. To mark the anniversary, KLM traditionally unveils a new Defter Blue miniature house.
This year the choice is the Amsterdam building “Het huis aan de drie grachten”, a national monument from the 17th century. At the ceremony, KLM CEO Marjan Rintel emphasized the airline’s resilience in difficult times and continued efforts to future-proof KLM.
The house was built in 1610 in the Dutch Renaissance style and is located on three canals in Amsterdam. KLM had been distributing the Defter Blue miniature houses as souvenirs to their business class passengers on intercontinental flights since the 1950s. These collectibles are popular with travelers and collectors alike.
