The Condor sister company Marabu is responsible for the fact that the crew of the Maltese subcontractor Air Horizont simply has to let a passenger announce the bad news to the passengers that they will no longer take off in the direction of Hamburg today.
A video taken by a passenger and initially published by Germany’s Bild newspaper, shows the incident, which took place on June 23, 2023, aboard Air Horizont-operated Boeing 737-400, registration 9H-AM W, known as Marabu -Flight MBU6641 should have been on the way, happened.
The Condor sister company Marabu Airlines has not been out of the negative headlines since it started operations. Huge delays, short-term cancellations and a lack of care for the travelers affected seem to be the order of the day. The company repeatedly asserted that it would try to remedy the situation by unbundling the flight schedule and hiring additional wet lease machines.
Some travelers find that they originally booked a Condor flight, but were then rebooked to the sister company Marabu, which has taken over numerous routes from the German airline from Munich and Hamburg, among others. With the Estonian airline currently only operating the ES-MBU itself, while all other aircraft are operated by third-party suppliers such as Nordica and Heston Airlines, this shows once again that the almost exclusive reliance on ACMI providers can end in chaos.
In the meantime, Marabu has also rented aircraft from other operators, as the obvious problems with the jets operated by Nordica, Heston and the company itself cannot be solved. These include the Boeing 737-400 operated by Air Horizont, which was scheduled to fly from Kos to Hamburg on June 23, 2023.
Those affected also explain to Aviation.Direct that the crew spoke only very broken English. However, the foreign language skills of many passengers – according to the subjective perception of one person on board – were also within very narrow limits. Irrespective of this: A female passenger has to make the announcement and brought the bad news to the fellow passengers that the journey to Germany will not take place until the next day.
